Recently the Daily Nation, Kenya’s biggest newspaper, published an article on the food waste issues addressed in the State of the World 2011: Innovations that Nourish the Planet.

The article focuses on the 150 million tons of grain wasted every year in developing countries. Farmers are forced to discard cosmetically ‘imperfect’ produce at market and face spoilage problems on farms. Most of this waste, however, could be prevented if farmers had better methods to store their crops, such as Purdue University’s Improved Cowpea Storage bags.
