Urban agriculture to beat hunger and protect the environment

According to the United Nations, 50 percent of the world’s population currently lives in urban areas, and that percentage is expected to increase to 65 percent by 2050. As cities become more crowded, urban farms are already helping to alleviate hunger and reduce poverty in many cities in sub-Saharan Africa.
