Seyyada is currently a rising senior at Mount Holyoke College where she is majoring in Geography with a minor in Film Studies. Her interest in food security was sparked when she researched the fishing industry in Lake Victoria as a first year, and learned about how local communities remain deeply impoverished despite participating in the global food industry.
Seyyada’s passion for development and resource management has been nurtured through many years traveling between Pakistan and Kuwait, and recent trips to London, Barcelona, and Thailand. She enjoys learning about the many ways in which global forces interact with local cultures, particularly in relation to gender and popular culture, and how this affects perceptions of place and space. At Nourishing the Planet, she hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of global resource politics and how local people, especially women, can be empowered to create change.
In her free time Seyyada enjoys sampling local cuisine and produce at farmers markets, reading, knitting, watching foreign films, and spending time outdoors.
