We have a whole new crop of interns joining the Nourishing the Planet team this summer. Today, meet Olivia Arnow.
Olivia is a rising senior at Vassar College, majoring in Science & Technology Studies, a multidisciplinary program that explores science and technology through social, political, historic, economic, and philosophic contexts. She is particularly interested in the social perception of science and the ways in which individuals identify with the environment and their surrounding landscapes.
Her interest in food systems sparked when working on a project with Hudson Valley youth, where she taught science through experiential learning in gardening, composting, and fostering a greater appreciation for the outdoors. After a semester in Capt Town, South Africa, her understanding of the need for sustainable food systems deepened, realizing that many of our problems stem from the lack of connection with our surrounding food sources and the natural world. With Nourishing the Planet, Olivia hopes to further explore her interests in food sustainability and security.
In her free time, Olivia loves reading, biking, live music, going on adventures and spending time outdoors.
