We have a whole new crop of staff and interns joining the Nourishing the Planet team this spring. Today, meet Leah Baines.
Leah is currently a senior at American University, majoring in International Studies with a focus in Global Environmental Politics and the Middle East/North Africa region. Leah has always been interested in and enjoyed eating fresh, local and sustainably grown foods, but a semester spent studying abroad in Morocco launched her realization of the dire need for food security for all. After witnessing her host mother distressed over a minute increase in the price of tomatoes, Leah became committed to understanding the impending global food shortage that is upon us and how it is affecting the world.
A combined interest in fresh food and development led her to the Nourishing the Planet project, and Leah is extremely excited to expand her horizons in the food and agriculture field. In her free time, Leah enjoys doing yoga, reading, painting, and spending time by the water.
