Jesse Chang is a rising senior at Colgate University, majoring in geography and minoring in philosophy. His interest in sustainable agriculture began as a result of a freshman course on ethnobotany, which highlighted the many wild uses of plants in traditional and modern day cultures. In this age of plenty, Jesse is astounded that so many hundreds of millions of people lack the basic necessities of food and water, and this search for answers has led him to pursue a research position with Nourishing the Planet.
At Colgate, Jesse is a member of the schools compost club which successfully integrated large-scale composting into the infrastructure of Colgate’s main dining hall. After his undergraduate experience, Jesse plans to backpack through Europe for a month–or seven–before pursuing a master’s in urban planning.
