Carly Chaapel is a recent graduate from Eckerd College, where she earned her BA in Environmental Studies with minors in Anthropology, Spanish, and Leadership Studies. She grew up in South Jersey and became more interested in agriculture through working with fruit growers and Rutgers University in a program for Integrated Pest Management.
As an undergraduate, she became part of the Tampa Bay community through volunteer work with the Edible Peace Patch Project. At the Patch, she taught elementary school science, reading, and math through experiential learning in the schoolyard garden. A semester abroad in New Zealand, and many Saturday mornings spent shopping at local farmers markets, have shown her the importance of connecting people to their environments through the food we eat.
With Nourishing the Planet and beyond, Carly hopes to continue supporting communities in which everyone has access to healthier foods and happier lifestyles. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, teaching Zumba fitness, finding sunshine, and exploring the culinary arts with friends.
