We have a whole new crop of interns joining the Nourishing the Planet team this fall. Today, meet Bijal Vachharajani.
Bijal is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Environment Security and Peace with a specialization in Climate Change and Security at the UN-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. While there, she also interned with the Earth Charter International.
Before travelling across half the world to study climate change, Bijal worked as a journalist with Time Out Mumbai, where she edited the Around Town city section and the Kids section. At the same time, she worked as the South Asia Co-ordinator for 350.org, an international movement that’s working on the climate crisis. Here, she helped organise events such as 10/10/10, a global day of climate action; and 350 Earth, a satellite art project, and handled social media.
Bijal lives in Mumbai, India where she is currently writing her thesis on framing the environment discourse in children’s books. But she is often distracted by the task because she is either re-reading Harry Potter, baking a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies, or travelling across the country.
In her time with the Nourishing the Planet team, Bijal hopes to look at food education in schools.
