Certification and Business Models that Contribute to Sustainability

Over the past six years, the Committee on Sustainability (COSA) has engaged in field research regarding the impacts of sustainability practices and certifications.

COSA is a non-profit global consortium of institutions that are dedicated to evaluating the impacts of sustainability programs within business models.

This year’s Rio Conference will provide a platform for the presentation of the results this research. The events will also be compromised of panelists of global companies and policy makers who will unveil their approaches at using certification to reduce poverty and to create a green economy.

Two events at the Rio Conference will discuss the issue of certification within the context of sustainable development:

1.      If sustainability were a business, how would it be run?

June 16th, 11am to 12.30 pm

2.      The Role and Impacts of Certification in the Green Economy

June 17th, 7.30pm to 9pm

These events are organized by International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Équiterre in partnership with the Swiss Government, the Québec Government and the Committee on Sustainability Assessment (COSA).
