Agriculture Makes the Front Page

In most papers, news about Africa is buried between stories about the latest Wall Street or celebrity scandal. But earlier this week, the Toronto Globe & Mail devoted an entire edition to Africa. Music celebrities—and Africa activists—Bono and Bob Geldof were guest editors, highlighting Africa’s potential as an economic powerhouse, the impact of mining on the continent, the need for better reproductive health services, and how Africa’s leaders are playing a bigger role in international economic meetings like the G8. Bono even interviewed President Barack Obama, who shared his thoughts on what is needed to improve food security in Africa.  The issue also highlights the important role Africa’s youth will play in the future of continent.
